How To Overcome Depression?

Depression is a state of mind or a mental health disorder that causes a loss of interest in activities. Sadness or anger are some common feelings in this state. 



There are different signs and symptoms of depression among different age group and gender of people. Reduced interest in regular activities, unintentional weight gain or loss, sleep deprivation or excess of sleep, restlessness, feeling worthless, loss of energy and continuous thoughts of suicide or death are some common symptoms of depression.

In females, anxiety, mood swings, fatigue, feeling anxious or hopeless, developing negative thoughts, getting irritated, withdrawing from social engagements, increased cramps, aches are some of the symptoms of depression. 

In males, drinking excess of alcohol, anger, avoiding family, working without breaks, aggressiveness, anxiousness, headaches, abusive behaviour and avoiding social situations are some symptoms of depression. 

In teenagers, sleeping too much, avoiding friends and family, feeling helpless and worthless, restlessness, changes in appetite, weight loss or gain, anger, thoughts of suicide are symptoms of depression.


There are number of factors that can cause depression among males, females and teenagers. 


Personal conflicts or disputes with family members or friends can cause depression the persons who has the biological vulnerability to develop depression. Relationships conflicts can affect your mental health badly. It can lead to chronic headaches and illness.


Certain medical drugs can increase your chances of depression. If you are having a chronic illness, sleep disorder or thyroid, there may be increased chances of experiencing depression. People who have chronic pain, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and cancer are more likely to have depression. 


Depression can be exerted through genes. If there is a family history of depression, the chances of having depression are increased. It means if any person in your family has experienced depression or any other mood disorder, you aree more likely to experience depression. 


Having serious illness can also cause depression. If you are suffering from chronic illnesses like, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS and multiple sclerosis, you have increased chances of having depression.


Too much stress among people lead to major depression. Whether chronic stress or acute stress, both lead to overactivity of the body's stress response mechanism and leads to depression. Death of a loved one or loss of job can create stress and causes depression.


If you are feeling depressed, you should take care of yourself emotionally, physically and spiritually. It can help you in converting negative emotions and thoughts into positive.
