Olives, scientifically known as Olea europaea, belong to a group of fruits called drupes. They are small fruits that grow on olive trees.

Olives contain 80% of water. They contain up to 11-15% of fats, most of which is oleic acid, monounsaturated fatty acid. They are low in carbs. Olives provide various vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin E, iron, copper, calcium, and sodium. Plant compounds like- Oleuropein, Hydroxytyrosol, Tyrosol, Oleanolic acid, and Quercetin.

1. Olives are rich in antioxidants which helps you in reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as, heart disease and cancer.

2. Oleic acid present in olives helps in regulating cholesterol levels and protecting LDL (bad) cholesterol from oxidation and reduce the risk of heart diseases.

3. Olives help in preventing blood clots that could lead to myocardial infarction or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

4. Monounsaturated fatty acids, i.e., oleic acid, present in olives gives you the feeling of fullness and satisfaction and hence reduce your appetite.

5. The high amount of Vitamin E present in olives neutralize free radicals in body fat and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
